Beginnings

Beginnings is a housing project funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The HUD program allows persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community by increasing the supply of rental housing with the availability of supportive services.

The Beginnings project involves two locations; a new, four-bedroom house in Lakemore, and a refurbished four-unit apartment building in west Akron. Beginnings rental housing offers the availability of supportive services and is intended for very low-income adults with mental, emotional, and/or physical disabilities. Rental subsidies help make the housing affordable. Rental costs are based on a sliding scale and are generally 30% of the tenant’s income.

Oriana House is providing the case management for Beginnings. Referrals will be accepted from social service agencies and the Mental Health Court in Summit County. For more information on Beginnings housing, call 330-535-8116.
