Oriana House Home Incarceration
Program Receives Re-Accreditation
The Home Incarceration Program operated by Oriana House was awarded its
re-accreditation by the American Correctional Association (ACA). The Home
Incarceration Program utilizes a tamper-proof, electronic monitoring system
approved by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The program requires that
a device be attached to a person’s ankle to provide 24-hour monitoring of
whether the person is in his or her home. Home Incarceration provides structured
support for offenders to continue in approved substance abuse treatment,
education, employment, and/or mental health counseling. Participants must
undergo random and weekly drug and alcohol testing, report in person weekly, and
verify all approved outside activities. Last year, the Home Incarceration
Program in Summit County provided services to 3,668 people. The accreditation
process involved a two-day, on-site visit by ACA auditors who reviewed 128
standards, met with Oriana House staff, and interviewed offenders in the HI
program. Oriana House received 100% on both the mandatory and non-mandatory
standards. ACA standards address services, programs, and operations essential to
effective correctional management. Standards set by ACA reflect practical,
up-to-date policies and procedures and function as a management tool for
agencies and facilities throughout the world. The accreditation demonstrates
that ¬Oriana House is operating and providing programming above the national
standards “The auditors were impressed by our monitoring system, and
complimented our staff for their professionalism,” said Bernie Rochford, Oriana
House ¬¬executive vice president. The Home Incarceration Program is located at
921 Sherman Street in Akron. Other facilities/programs operated by Oriana House
that are accredited by ACA include: the Summit County Community Based
Correctional Facility (CBCF), the Cliff Skeen CBCF, Residential Correctional
Center (RCC), Terrence Mann Residential Center (TMRC), and the Residential
Institutional Probation Program (RIP), Day Reporting, Oriana House Community
Corrections and Treatment Center in Cleveland, and the CROSSWAEH CBCF in Tiffin,
Ohio. Oriana House is a private, nonprofit, community corrections and chemical
dependency treatment agency based in Summit County.
