Many people with a criminal conviction have a strong desire to contribute to society and use their education, training, and skills in a meaningful job. That's why Oriana House offers services to help assist companies and businesses follow helpful recruitment procedures to get the right employees for the right positions. Our programming is designed to prepare individuals to become reliable, self-sufficient, and responsible members of the community. Oriana House offers Reentry Support through the Front Porch Café in Akron http://southstreetministries.org/front-porch-cafe/ and the Ohio Means Jobs Center http://jfs.ohio.gov/owd/wioa/map.stm. In Cuyahoga County, job search assistance is also available through North Star Neighborhood Reentry Resource Center http://northstarreentry.org/. Employment Readiness Training (preparing for interviews and creating resumes), Employment Boosters, and Employment Aftercare (assisting with adjusting to the job and meeting expectations) are also offered to clients. Providing jobs to those who have been successfully released from corrections programming contributes to a safer community and greatly reduces the risk of the individual committing another crime.
Employers who hire ex-offenders can benefit from these Oriana House services in many different ways:
- The Work Opportunity Tax Credit offers employers up to $2,400 against their tax liability
