Marietta Community Foundation Awards Grant to Compass Drug Court Program
The Marietta Community Foundation approved a grant award of $550 to Oriana House to support the Compass Drug Court Program.
Compass Drug Court, operated by Washington County Court of Common Pleas, is an intense program, at least 14 months in length, that helps justice-involved adults with drug and/or alcohol addictions get the treatment and skills they need to achieve a sober, law-abiding, healthy lifestyle. Making life-altering changes isn’t easy, but the information, treatment, and teaching provided in this intense, research based program helps individuals chart a new course that includes:
- A clean and sober lifestyle
- Healthy family life and friendships
- Educational opportunities
- Employment goals and options
- Becoming trustworthy
- An overall, healthier lifestyle
- Resources to help achieve full potential
Washington County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark Kerenyi along with Washington County Adult Probation, Washington County Public Defenders Office, Washington County Prosecutor’s Office, Oriana House, Rigel Recovery Services and other treatment providers, law enforcement, and community partners work together to provide the resources, instruction, support, and accountability needed for participants to reach their full potential.
The grant funds will be used for incentive rewards for program participants. Compass Drug Court uses a system of rewards and sanctions based on research that shows it is important to recognize and reinforce progress toward responsible, abstinent behavior. Graduated sanctions can also be effective. Compass Drug Court participants are rewarded for positive behavior and progress and receive sanctions for rule violations.
Compass Drug Court is certified as a Specialty Court by the Ohio Supreme Court.
