Three Community Based Correctional Facilities Celebrate Client Accomplishments
Research consistently shows that obtaining stable, long-term employment plays a critical role in improving outcomes for individuals returning to the community after serving their sentence; reducing recidivism, strengthening economic stability, and contributing to safer, more resilient communities.
Workforce development programs in Oriana House's Community Based Correctional Facilities (CBCFs) teach skills that help clients secure sustainable jobs that can lead to careers.
In September, 15 clients at the McDonnell Center CBCF in Cleveland completed the Tyro Leadership course and went on to become certified to operate a forklift through the Ridge Project Forklift Program. The Ridge Project Forklift Program is a two-hour, forklift operation certification course that includes a lecture, a written test, and a hands-on driving assessment. A pre-requirement for Ridge Project is completion of the Tyro Leadership course. The six-week, online Tyro course embodies the journey of transformation with a pre-course survey, learning sessions, testimonials, and achievement planning to help participants identify and map out their desired next steps. The curriculum was developed by a man who spent 15 years incarcerated and the content is designed to engage and empower participants.
In October, the Cliff Skeen CBCF for Women in Akron celebrated the graduation of clients who finished the In2Work program. In2Work is sponsored by Aramark and trains participants on food and warehouse safety and provides the opportunity to earn a ServSafe Manager Certification from the National Restaurant Association - a credential highly regarded in the food service industry.
As a second-chance employer, Aramark encourages In2Work graduates to apply for positions within the company and has hired former Oriana House clients. Graduates of In2Work, as well as their family members, are also eligible for Aramark educational scholarships, further expanding opportunities for personal and professional growth.
In November, the CROSSWAEH CBCF in Tiffin had 11 clients graduate from In2Work. The ceremonies recognizing In2Work graduates are organized by Aramark with their management staff presenting certificates and sharing remarks.
Many times accomplishments like completing Tyro Leadership, Ridge Project Forklift Program, and In2Work are the first time CBCF clients have the opportunity to celebrate a success and receive congratulations. Oriana House is proud to partner with these programs and provide hands-on training and instructions that help reduce recidivism.
